Reception: Flowers

Before I blog about the reception decor, I feel obligated to tell you how it happened. :) When we first decided to get married on the beach in Mexico, we kind of went with a beach theme for the reception....I don't know how it happened, it just did. We bought a few things in blues (including my reception invitations!) and thought of beach ideas. I really hated it...I don't know why, it just isn't me...no one really decided to do a "beach" reception, it just snuck up on me and that's where we took it. About a week ago, I realized I hated it. I did not want a beach theme reception. Just because we are getting married on the beach does not mean we have to have the reception be "themed." Anyway, after talking to mom and dad, we realized that we had not spent that much money (other than the invitations and those are still going out, blue or not!!) and I started googling for pictures to get ideas I did like.

Verdict in: Hot pink, green, and orange (but not crazy-tastefully done.) :)

I AM SO EXCITED!! I met with two florists today (I really LOVE one) and I experimented with some DIY centerpieces. Half of the tables will have large floral centerpieces (that the florist is doing) and half will have...

I seriously think I am in love! I LOVE LOVE LOVE them! They have little baby key limes in the bottom, and orchids in water. They will have floating candles on top, and I think I might add some sparkles around the top rim as well. I will also add lots of little votive candles around them too.

Reception: Save the Dates

I never really wanted to do Save the Dates for our reception, but then everyone kept asking for the date, and I started to realize how many June weddings there are...so Save the Dates have been my project for the week. I researched them online, and the prices were outrageous! We are talking like $100 for 100 STD's. CRAZY!! So, I made them myself. I like them, and will be sending them this week.

Here is the finished product. I printed them on cream paper so the picture doesn't look as out of place on the final one.

I got the background layout from here. Then I added the wording and made it my colors...it was pretty easy and very cost efficient! The hardest part was all of the cutting, and mom did most of that. :)

We're Getting Married in Mexico!!!

If you have known me for any length of time, you might know that my dream wedding is a GIANT wedding with all of our family and friends, lots of food, fun, and laughter (I mean I am a girl, right??). I have always imagined my wedding as an outdoor wedding by the water (so, a lake if you are wanting to get married in the DFW area) and a HUGE indoor reception...

When Chris and I got engaged, I started planning accordingly...when I would ask Chris questions about the wedding, he was NOT interested. :) He just didn't seem to want any of what I wanted for our wedding day. One of those times when I was trying to pull an opinion out of him on something as trivial as whether or not to have chocolate covered strawberries, I finally just asked him..."What do you want? What do you see when you see our wedding day?" His answer...."I don't want to say my vows in front of 250 people...I just want to get married on the beach with our families..." So, that was it. We compromised (although I'm not sure you can call it that, because now I love the idea of getting away with our families for our most special day as much as he did) on a small destination wedding and a large reception in Dallas with all of our friends and family members. The more we looked into it and the more we plan, the more excited I get! I love that I will not only remember our wedding DAY forever, but our wedding WEEK. We will have so many wonderful memories from our week in Mexico with our families that we will be able to share with everyone we love through pictures and stories when we return.

And how could you not love this?? It speaks for itself...

Inspiration...

So..my inspiration for starting this blog comes from my incessant need to document everything I do...

We are getting married in Mexico, and having a reception here. For the reception, we (Chris, my mom, and I) are doing everything pretty much ourselves. For that reason, I wanted to journal our wedding and reception planning to have it for my memories long after the wedding and reception days are over.

Pretty boring post, I know..but it explains why I started blogging...fun stuff will come later! :)
